Background checks are a normal course of the hiring process for many companies in the United States. In some industries – like financial services and education – this due diligence is actually mandated by government regulations.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has had 18 investigators convicted of falsifying reports since 2006, and a lack of resources is preventing officials from processing a backlog of an additional 36 cases.
The bill would create a single, uniform badge at one price for contract workers on school sites, reducing the number and costs of background checks in the state.
About 58% of federally licensed firearms dealers have not been inspected by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the past five years.
