Requiring background checks on mid-employment workers is legal, but that doesn't mean it's uncomplicated. 

Students living on Texan college campuses may be required to undergo a background check through the state before moving in.

 Background checks are a normal course of the hiring process for many companies in the United States. In some industries – like financial services and education – this due diligence is actually mandated by government regulations.  

After hitting an all-time high in December, background checks for gun purchases have declined by nearly half.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has had 18 investigators convicted of falsifying reports since 2006, and a lack of resources is preventing officials from processing a backlog of an additional 36 cases. 

Parts of the bill would also allow guns in parked cars on college campuses, on bike paths and in restaurants that serve alcohol.

The bill would create a single, uniform badge at one price for contract workers on school sites, reducing the number and costs of background checks in the state. 

About 58% of federally licensed firearms dealers have not been inspected by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the past five years.
