Colonel José Antonio Mellado Valverde of the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) has been appointed as the new Director of Security at Real Madrid, a soccer club based in the Spanish capital city.
Valverde was previously head of the Division against Organized Crime at the Center for Intelligence against Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO), which forms part of the Spanish Secretariat of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior.
Valverde also held other security roles, including Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Technical Unit of the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil, Interior Attaché at the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C., and Head of the International Police Cooperation Area of the Secretary of State for Security.
His numerous awards include several Silver Crosses and Crosses of Merit of the Guardia Civil, the United Nations Medal and Medals of Honor from various countries.
