In response to crimes of which University of Georgia (UGA) students were victims, UGA has announced $8.5 million to improve safety both on and off campus, including hiring more UGA police officers, installing security cameras and increasing the university's infrastructure budget.

Where there is darkness, light. Or, at least, actionable security video boasting higher quality images at night. George Carlin, as the hippy dippy weatherman, had his spot-on prediction: “Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Continued dark overnight.” Add an additional nighttime forecast of likely chance of greater crime risk, too.

Violent crime has either steadily declined or increased, depending upon the part of the country, although consistent budget cuts are one reason that lawmakers in some municipalities have been forced to hire fewer police officers when new camera equipment will do.
