An additional 55 to 63 people have been murdered each year in Missouri following the state’s 2007 repeal of its permit-to-purchase (PTP) handgun law, which required all handgun purchasers to obtain a license verifying that they have passed a background check.
The Republican-controlled Missouri legislature is expected to enact a statute next month nullifying all federal gun laws in the state and making it a crime for federal agents to enforce them there.
The processes and programs for responding and preventing terrorist incidents would be available under Missouri's open records laws unless the exemptions are renewed.
