The New Canaan School District will add five new security officers, new two-way radios and cell service boosters in order to bolster security at the district's schools.
It will cost $12,000 for two months of having an off-duty deputy stationed at Old Kings Elementary School, but Laura Lauria is footing the bill anyway.
With only two security officers to patrol 900 miles of track, state legislators were pushing to grant those officers the power to arrest, issue citations and use firearms if necessary.
The two-way Motorola radio has been the cornerstone of real-time communications for the emergency response and security industry for nearly a century, and is soon to be complemented by smartphone technology. However, the smartphone isn’t going to be used for real-time voice, but will instead be a “must have” device for surveillance operations.
