Lancaster, CA, has decided to build on its current public safety systems. The city will implement new license plate recognition software. The system is meant to address safety concerns taken from recent resident surveys.
The automated license plate recognition technology will provide alerts when a stolen or wanted vehicle enters a city’s limits. The system gathers evidence about vehicles without facial recognition or personally identifiable information in an effort to prevent bias.
In addition, the LA County Sheriff’s Station in Lancaster is implementing a web-based system designed to help identify and target vandals using GPS software. The system is designed to plot graffiti on a map so law enforcement can review vandal activity and determine if it poses a larger threat to public safety.
