Jeff Hansen has been appointed to the position of Chair of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) National Advisory Council.

Hansen brings decades of emergency management experience to the advisory role, including serving as Director of Community Safety for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma since 2021. Prior to that role, he served as the Director of Emergency Management for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma for nine years.

For the first time in the council’s history, a Tribal representative was appointed as council chair. Hansen served as the Vice Chair of the council for four years prior to the appointment.

The National Advisory Council advises FEMA on all aspects of emergency management, including preparedness, protection, response, recovery and mitigation for disasters and national emergencies. Council members represent a substantive cross-section of officials, emergency managers and emergency response providers from state, local, tribal and territorial governments, the private sector and nongovernmental organizations.

Congratulations!
