William MacMillan, former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), has joined Salesforce as SVP, Security Product and Program Management, BISO, and Acquisition Integration.
After serving 10 years as a combat rescue and special operations pilot in the Air Force, MacMillan spent nearly two decades at the CIA, where he played a key part in driving the agency’s digital transformation. This culminated in his role as the Agency’s CISO, reshaping the CIA’s cybersecurity strategy.
His service at the CIA gave him a deep understanding of the threat landscape facing today’s economy. Of his transition, MacMillan says, “While this might seem an unlikely transition, to me it feels like the perfect fit,” and shared why via a LinkedIn post. “And I believe that in Salesforce, I have found an organization built around another great mission — business as the greatest platform for change — and dedicated to values that ground our work and keep us focused on that mission.”
MacMillan says he is looking forward to creating organizational conditions in which every team member is trusted, supported, prepared, and empowered to bring their A-game every day. “There’s no room for egos or personal agendas; it has to be about team success all the time. If you take care of the team, the team will take care of the mission.”
Congratulations!
