Natascha Gerlach is the new Director of EU Privacy and Data Policy at The Centre for Information Policy Leadership (CIPL), a global privacy and data policy think tank founded in 2001.

As an independent consultant to CIPL in the firm’s Brussels office, Gerlach will build on her extensive experience in international data protection and eDiscovery to further CIPL’s EU privacy, data and digital policy agenda. In addition, Gerlach will focus on a wide range of privacy and data policy-related topics, including artificial intelligence, data ethics and governance, cross-border data flows, and a plethora of existing and expected EU data laws, including the GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, the Digital Markets Act, the Digital Services Act and the Data Act. Gerlach will also work closely with CIPL’s international privacy team based in CIPL’s offices in London, Brussels and Washington, DC. 

Gerlach joins CIPL from the law firm Cleary Gottlieb, where she worked as a senior attorney and managed the company’s European eDiscovery Group. She is also a frequent speaker at international conferences on cross-border data transfers. She has published extensively on data protection topics, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the U.S. Cloud Act.
