Philadelphia-based higher education institution Temple University has announced new campus safety measures to increase security and violence prevention measures following the fatal shooting of Temple student Samuel Collington.
Among the increased security measures are a safety audit conducted by former commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department Charles H. Ramsey; the formation of a Task Force on Violence Reduction Strategies; and a new safety app that connects students directly with campus police to provide virtual or physical escorts when needed.
In addition, Temple University has expanded the amount of campus police officers; doubled the number of Philadelphia police officers patrolling the area; added new security cameras, lighting and emergency phones; and updated its on-demand evening shuttle program for students.
