The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has requested public input on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), including facial recognition.
In a notice recently published in the Federal Register, DHS notes its previous uses of AI in customs and border control, transportation security and investigative efforts. However, the department highlighted the controversies surrounding AI and facial recognition, technologies accompanied by privacy and bias concerns.
Security leaders and individuals interested in the topic are invited to submit public comments on the technology, which DHS plans to consider in its future implementations of AI and facial recognition.
