The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has named Thomas Leone as the new Chief of Police.
Having served as the UMBPD Interim Chief of Police since June 2020, Leone has already expanded the department's police training program and developed opportunities for community engagement with the department.
Improved operations deployments during his tenure led to a 54.7% reduction in crime in 2020, while newly deployed body-worn cameras have led to an increase in departmental transparency. Leone also created mentorship and advancement opportunities for security officers to attend the police academy; those recruits graduated this month and are joining the UMBPD as police officers.
Leone joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) in 2016 after a 20-year tenure with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. In May 2021, Leone graduated with a Master of Science degree in Homeland Security and Crisis Management Law.
Congratulations!
