Lewis Eakins joins Ivy Tech Community College as Vice President for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. The position will take effect July 1. Prior to this position, Eakins served as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Director of Public Safety at Idaho State University with campuses located in Boise, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and the main campus in Pocatello.

Eakins has more than 35 years of law enforcement, security consulting, and emergency management experience. His past experience includes chief of police at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL; and a captain with the METRO Transit Police in Houston, TX.

Eakins has undergraduate degrees in Police Science and Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in Security Management, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration, concentrating in Homeland Security Policy and Coordination. He is also a 2015 graduate of FEMA’s National Emergency Management Executive Academy (Cohort III).
