The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) opened the application period for the federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) on March 4. This grant opportunity appropriated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2021 supports security enhancements at eligible nonprofit organizations in New Jersey that are at the greatest risk of terrorist attacks.
“As the threat landscape continues to evolve, NJOHSP remains committed to improving the safety and security of eligible nonprofit organizations in New Jersey,” said Jared M. Maples, Director of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. “The protection of our residents and visitors will always remain a top priority. Any funding apportioned through the program would also support the efforts of our Interfaith Advisory Council to offer additional security and training resources for houses of worship and religious communities.”
The NSGP program provides funding to purchase and install select security equipment on property owned or leased by the nonprofit organization. It consists of two grant-funding opportunities based on the applicant’s geographic location. NSGP-Urban Area (NSGP-UA) is a program limited to nonprofit organizations located in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Union counties. NSGP-State (NSGP-S) is a program limited to nonprofit organizations located in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Salem, and Warren counties. Eligible nonprofit organizations are described under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on April 11.
NJOHSP will hold a virtual workshop on March 11 for those who want to learn more about the program and application process. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will also hold several sessions to provide technical assistance. All information, including registration details for the virtual events and how to apply for grant funding, is available on NJOHSP’s NSGP webpage.
