Nonprofits Insurance Alliance (NIA) announced that Steven Salar has joined NIA as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) responsible for compliance, risk management, internal audit, employment risk consulting, loss control and member support. Salar has held executive positions at Bank of America, and QBE Insurance Group. He joins NIA during a period of growth for the organization. NIA is a leading P&C insurer exclusively serving 501(c)(3) organizations and has seen a significant increase in new policyholders, in all classes of business, as fewer commercial insurers are willing to insure nonprofits during the current hardening insurance market.
“We’re pleased to have Steven join NIA,” says Pamela Davis, founder, president, and CEO of NIA. “This is a very exciting time for NIA as we grow to serve more nonprofits. Steve brings over 25 years of experience leading risk, compliance and claims, and a passion to help build stronger communities.”
Prior to joining NIA, Salar was an Agency Owner at Allstate Insurance. Before that, he was Head of Strategic Planning at QBE Insurance. Salar has also served as Director of Claims Compliance at Farmers Insurance, Vice President Compliance Officer at Bank of America, and held roles at State Farm, and AIG.
“Joining NIA gives me an opportunity to serve nonprofit communities nationwide,” says Salar. “NIA is a different kind of insurer with a strong culturally-driven desire to push the mission to do good—not good for the bottom-line, but good for the triple bottom-line: nonprofits; our employees; and through sustainable practices, the community at large. From a risk and compliance perspective, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
Salar holds a BA from California State University, Northridge, an AA from Los Angeles Pierce College, Woodland Hills, CA and has completed graduate studies in strategic management & nonprofit organizations from Cal State Northridge. Additionally, Salar holds several licenses including being a licensed Property and Casualty General Lines Agent/Broker.
