Domain registrar Network Solutions has disclosed a data breach, after a third-party gained unauthorized access to the company's computing systems.
According to Network Solutions, the breach may have resulted in account information being accessed. "No credit card data was compromised as a result of this incident," said Network Solutions.
Upon discovery, the company began working with an independent cybersecurity firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the scope of the incident, including the specific data impacted. Network Solutions have also reported the intrusion to federal authorities and are notifying affected customers.
The type of information that may have been breached includes names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and information about the services that they offer to a given account holder. In addition, Network Solutions said they encrypt credit card numbers and no credit card data was compromised as a result of the incident.
A news report estimates millions were affected by the breach.
