A bill introduced in the Wisconsin State Legislature would give students advance notice of when they’ll participate in a fire drill or practice safety techniques for an active shooter drill.
Current law states the emergency drills should be conducted “without previous warning.”
2019 Assembly BILL 54 would also give principals discretion over whether they want to provide a warning and to whom, which Wisconsin legislators say could be beneficial for students with disabilities who might have more adverse reactions to unannounced drills.
