More police and resident interactions in St. Louis will be captured by body cameras by the end of the year as eight area police departments jointly landed a $400,000 federal grant to equip about 260 officers with body cameras.
The group of police forces will help each other control costs for the devices and video storage beyond the life of the grant, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article. By leveraging economies of scale across the eight departments will help lower costs that often price smaller departments out of the body camera market.
The Regional Justice Information System (REJIS) Commission will manage the video collected by the cameras and could become a hub for body camera video storage for the region and state.
