Washington D.C.’s Chief of Police Cathy L. Lanier announced Tuesday that she will resign next month to take over as head of security for the NFL.
The 49-year-old law enforcement leader spent 26 years on the force, with the last decade as its first permanent female leader, according to The Washington Post. In 2010, Lanier was named to Security magazine's Most Influential People in Security.
Lanier will be taking over the NFL vice president of security post from former NFL CSO Jeff Miller, who left the League earlier this year.
