Shanghai Airlines has defended its policy to make their employees who are going to get married submit information about their spouses. A spokesperson for the airline said the policy is intended to ensure the safety of flights.
Shanghai Airlines flight attendants, security officers and pilots are all required to provide information regarding their spouses for them to undergo a background check before getting married, the statement said. If a staff member refuses to submit information, it would be indicated on a performance record. Staff will also be disciplined if they get married without informing the airline.
The spokesperson said the airline has to ensure that its employees and their families do not have a criminal record because the civil aviation industry has a responsibility to ensure the safety of flights and airports.
