The TSA is now funding the roll-out of exit pods at major airport terminals across the city. These pods would temporarily detain passengers before they are allowed to leave, Daily Mail reports.
Travelers are forced to wait inside the pods as they leave the airport terminal until a green light is shown and the exterior door opens. Once travelers exit, they would be unable to re-enter the terminal. The introduction of these pods would reduce or eliminate the need for TSA personnel or airport security officers to guard the terminal exits, and would, eventually, save TSA money.
The pods have been installed at Syracuse International Airport has part of a $60 million renovation, and there are plans for the pods to be installed at other major airports soon.
