A private security guard at a GM assembly plant in Shreveport, La. is accused of stealing 11,000 pounds of copper, a bit at a time, over 16 months, starting in 2008, said an AP report.

The report says the guard was booked on 16 felony counts of theft and one misdemeanor theft count.

The copper was in the form of welding tips used by robotic welders and the loss to GM was more than $23,000.

The report says the guard was employed by a private security company and had access to the locked area where the metals were stored.
