Laboratory Services Cooperative experienced a cybersecurity incident

Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC) announced it experienced a cybersecurity incident, possibly compromising patient and employee data. LSC, a provider of lab testing services, services select Planned Parenthood centers. Not all Planned Parenthood centers are affected by this cybersecurity incident, only the ones that receive lab testing services from LSC. Individuals who visited these centers for lab tests may have compromised information.
Suspicious activity was discovered on the LSC network in October 2024. LSC involved third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate the nature and scope of the incident, revealing that malicious actors accessed and removed some files belonging to the organization. The compromised information may include names, emails, addresses, and phone numbers. Furthermore, data of one or more of the following categories may have been taken:
- Clinical/medical information: This information may include date(s) of service, patient/accession numbers, provider names, treatment locations and other care-related details. It may also include diagnoses, lab results, treatments and medical record numbers.
- Health insurance information: Data may include insurance company names, plan names, plan types and member/group ID numbers.
- Billing, claims and payment details: This could involve claim numbers, billing codes, balance information and payment card information. It could also include bank account details such as bank names, routing numbers and account numbers.
Additional personal information may have also been lost, including birth dates, demographic information, state ID numbers, student ID numbers, Social Security numbers, and other forms of government identification.
