1 in 3 security leaders say AI will make ransomware a greater threat

A new report from Ivanti surveyed more than 2,400 security leaders and found that the top predicted threat for 2025 is ransomware. According to the report, nearly 1 out of every 3 security professionals (38%) believe ransomware will become an even greater threat when powered by AI. The report found a gap in preparedness for ransomware attacks, with only 29% of security leaders saying they are very prepared for ransomware incidents.
The report also found that cybersecurity has high C-level support. 89% of respondents state that cybersecurity is a topic at the board-of-directors level, and 81% say their board of directors includes someone with cyber expertise. Additionally, 88% say their CISOs are included in high-level strategic meetings regarding organizational planning and decision making.
Around 3 out of 4 security professionals report that their budgets are growing. 81% state that their current budgets are sufficient to cover their 2025 goals.
Data silos are impacting are limiting threat visibility and impacting response time across organizations, as 55% of organizations report security and IT silos. 62% report these silos are hindering security responses, and 53% say they are threatening the security posture of the organization.
