A report from Auvik offers insights into the state of IT work, highlighting insights from IT and MSP professionals and discussing notable trends and challenges IT teams are facing. The survey results indicate that stress and burnout are approaching record rates, as 60% of IT professionals report experiencing burnout. This burnout has greater implications than individual health and well-being, as 78% report that work-related stressors are blocking them from upskilling — potentially limiting their ability to grow skills that could contribute to a more productive team environment.
According to the survey results, the greatest workload currently falls on senior employees (IT workers with more than 10 years of experience and workers from the Baby Boomer generation report the longest work weeks). 44% of IT professionals state their workload is limiting their ability to be productive, and 58% state half or more of their work week involves resolving end-user requests.
When it comes to corporate management’s support for IT initiatives, 84% of IT professionals report high satisfaction — with the exception of AI and security risk comprehension. 20% to 24% of respondents are unsatisfied with their organization’s current AI policy incorporation. Furthermore, 34% have no policy to manage AI concerns, and 36% are not confident they would be given permission to explore new technology (including AI and automation tools).
