Taiwan airport secured with touchless screening tech

December 29, 2021

The Taiwan Ministry of Transportation and Communications has begun installation of full-body scanners at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to allow for contactless enhanced security screening.

In a statement, Department of Aviation and Navigation Deputy Director-General Han Chen-hua (韓振華) said that previous security protocols involved a body search when passengers triggered an alarm from a metal detector.

The new full-body scanners aim to lower security screening times and reduce direct contact between security personnel and passengers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airport, which hosted over 48 million passengers annually before the pandemic, has installed five scanners across two terminals.
