The Port Authority of Allegheny County is improving perimeter security around its Ross bus garage as the last part of a five-year project, according to the
Funded through a $928,250 Homeland Security grant, the Port Authority has installed security fencing at its other bus garages along with closed-circuit monitoring systems on the East and West busways, spokesman Jim Ritchie said. Grant money was also used to improve lighting, emergency training and a related public awareness campaign.
The new fencing at Ross will prevent pedestrians from walking through the property, as they do now. Visitors will still be able to access a public lobby area, Ritchie says.
He declined to say when the Ross project would be completed.
